So last year, when you made your resolutions, how long did they last? A week, a month, a few days? Did you know that a whopping 80% of people will break their resolutions, and a third won’t even make it to the end of January!
The trouble is this – if you’ve picked which habits to change on a whim (say for example at 1145pm on New Year’s Eve), without really thinking about your motivation or mindset, then maintaining your resolutions is equally based on whimsy.

Did you know that your digestive system measures over 30 feet in length from entrance to exit?
Your body depends on this large surface area to take in food and absorb the nutrients that enable you to function and, more importantly, to flourish.
Without adequate nutrients on a grand scale (i.e. starvation) your body simply can’t function. But on a small scale, nutrient deficiency can go unnoticed for great lengths of time. As body processes, energy production and enzyme function deteriorates the end result is poor elimination of toxic waste and ultimately chronic disease.
Digestive distress is rarely a popular subject . . . Read More

It’s hard to teach an old dog new tricks, right?
When you were younger you had a steep learning curve about all kinds of things in life. Learning to brush your teeth, pour the milk without spilling it, all kinds of little tasks that as an adult, you completely take for granted.
Because of this, many habits you learned were imprinted on your mind when you were very young. The amazing thing is these habits have a powerful influence over you for the rest of your life.

I don’t post recipes very often – in fact I think this is the first! But lately clients have been asking, so here is one of my all time favourites…
This recipe is quick to make, which is always a bonus. It’s also a good source of protein, B vitamins, magnesium and iron. It’s fairly low in calories (about 500) and high in fiber so it’s the perfect meal for weight loss because it keeps you feeling full.
On top of all this goodness it’s also . . . Read More

It looks like we are heading in to cold and flu season once again…I have so many friends that are under the weather right now! So now would be a great time to start talking about staying healthy all winter long.
On a basic level, most people think of their immune system as a body-wide filter that saves us from getting sick. This filter pulls the “bad guys” (i.e. bacteria and viruses) out from hiding, kills them, and then gets rids of them.
In reality, your immune system is . . . Read More

Ok so today didn’t start off that great.
No wait – if I’m honest, this all started yesterday. I had a long day and my to-do list was growing exponentially, I knew there was decisions I had to make that I been procrastinating on, that I would have to face soon. It all summed up to be a giant ball of stress growing in the pit of my stomach.
Feeling a little sick to my stomach I went to bed and “slept” for the 5 and . . . Read More

I think by now we all know that some fats are better for us than others. Avocados, olive oil and others that are liquid at room temperature – unsaturated fats – are good for us.
In fact the human brain is 60% fat (gives a whole new meaning to calling someone a fathead haha) and if our brains are not working properly because of a lack of good fats – well you can guess that the rest of your body isn’t going to work as well . . . Read More

Now here is an immune boosting treatment that I laughed at initially… ok I have to admit that sometimes I’m still a bit of a skeptic.
My naturopath recently suggested this therapy to reduce sinus congestion but she tells me it is also effective in relieving head and chest colds, earaches, the flu, sore throats and even allergies. Since she is a genius and I trust her I will pass on her advice to you.
It’s called the “cold socks treatment” (yes you read that right!):

I found this article recently and thought it was an interesting read. It’s a good reminder why sometimes the quick solution isn’t always the best solution for your health – I think a valuable lesson can be taken from this. Enjoy!:
Let me tell you about the skin. It technically is considered a body “organ” because it has functions just like the other organs of the body (brain, liver, stomach, etc). It is the largest organ because, well, what part of you isn’t covered by some form of skin? I suppose the nails and eyes . . . Read More

Did you know that there are 10-20 times as many bacteria in your gut than there are cells in your body? Or that up to 60% of the bulk of your bowel movements are made up of bacteria?
While that’s an awful lot of bacteria, they’re not anything to be afraid of.
In fact, the relationship between you and your bacterial friends is a very mutually beneficial one.
These bacteria line the inside of your digestive system, and protect you from more dangerous bacterial invaders like C. Difficile and Salmonella. . . . Read More
